Many players have reported an issue regarding the game where they encountered the error “0xc0000005” which does not boot the application. This guide will provide fixes to solve the issue.

The “Application was unable to start correctly” in MultiVersus could be due to a number of reasons, the most prevalent being a poor or no Internet connection, game servers being temporarily unavailable or corrupted game file, outdated game version or a memory cache issue. Following are some temporary fixes to solve this issue.

Check your Internet connection

  • Make sure you have an active Internet connection and your device is connected. Ensure you do not have a slow-speed connection or running low on data.
  • You can also try switching to a different internet connection or to your mobile hotspot to fix the issue temporarily.

Check the status of MultiVersus Servers

Check if the servers for the game are down from the DownDetector website or if multiple people are reporting about the issue on Twitter. If you find that many people are reporting this issue, the servers are likely down.

Run the Application as Administrator

  • Right-click on the application you want to launch and choose the Properties from the context menu.
  •  In the popup window, go to the Compatibility tab and check on Run this program as an administrator. Click OK to continue.

Change Launch Command

  • Open the Steam Application
  • Right-Click on the game title
  • Select Properties
  • Go to the Launch Option
  • Type d3d2 and launch the game

If the game still doesn’t launch normally, try using these other commands,  dxd11 or dxd12.

Check if your system meets the minimum requirements

You just might be running the application on a system which does not meet the minimum requirements to run the game. Ensure your system has the minimum system requirements or is above them.

  1. Memory: 4 GB RAM
  2. OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  3. Additional Notes: 60 FPS at 720p
  4. A 64-bit processor and operating system
  5. Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD FX-8350
  6. Graphics: GeForce GTX 550 Ti or Radeon HD 7770

The Recommended Requirement include:

  1. Memory: 8 GB RAM
  2. OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  3. Additional Notes: 60 FPS at 1080p
  4. Graphics: GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon R9 270
  5. Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  6. Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200

Run Chkdsk Command

If there are issues with your hardware, the problem the application was unable to start correctly may also occur. You can try running the Chkdsk command to solve the hardware issue.

Step 1: Type Command Prompt in the search box of Windows 10 and select Run as administrator.

Step 2: Then type chkdsk c: /f /r in the command window and hit Enter to go on. You will receive a warning message and type Y to continue.

(The location c is just an example. If you wish to check another drive, you need to replace the letter c with the corresponding letter of that drive.)

After that, you can restart your computer and run the application again.

Reinstall The Game

Launch your Steam app and right-click on MultiVersus: Ultimate Knockout. Select the “Manage” option on the menu, then “Uninstall”.

Reinstall the game from the installer.

Disable Steam Overlay

If the game is still prompting an error, try disabling the Steam overlay.

To do that, Open the Steam application and open the Settings menu. Then click on the in-game option, and find the Steam Overlay option. To completely disable you will have to uncheck all the boxes except the third one.

These are about all the temporary fixes you can try to fix the error while the developers hopefully release a patch soon. Check out fixes and extensive guides for other games below.
