How to get DualSense Adaptive Triggers Haptic Feedback on PC

DualSense is one of the Sony PlayStation 5’s biggest features, and it’s also one of the best PC controllers. It feels unlike any other controller while playing PS5 titles that make the most of its advanced haptic motors and adaptive triggers.

In a nutshell, haptic feedback is how a controller feels while you’re playing a game. The controller may provide particular vibrations to simulate collisions or the sensation of certain materials impacting your character.

Additionally, depending on the circumstances in the game, the controller’s trigger buttons can change how they feel. For instance, as your player gets tired during sprinting, the resistance in the sprint trigger may rise. Or the trigger may be blocked entirely when a gun jams in a shooting game. This is referred to as adaptive trigger support.

Even though the DualSense is simple to use on a PC, most games aren’t made to benefit from its distinctive hardware.

Here is a simple explanation of how to connect the PS5 DualSense controller to a PC through Bluetooth or a USB cable.

How to Connect a PS5 Controller to a PC

Bluetooth (Wireless Setup)

Instead of leaning forwards over the screen, you can simply sit back while playing. If your PC supports Bluetooth, the PS5 DualSense controller can work wirelessly as well.

Press and hold the central PS Button and the Share button for a couple of seconds to pair the controller. The lightbar in the centre of the controller will start blinking.

Head to the Bluetooth settings on your PC, which may be opened by searching for Bluetooth in the Windows settings. Hit “Add Bluetooth or other device”. As soon as you see the “Wireless Controller” name on the available devices list, click on it to pair the controller with your PC, and you’ll be good to go.

USB (Wired Setup)

The fact that even your grandma also knows how to connect a charger to a phone shows how easy connecting a PS5 controller to a PC is.

You’ll need a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, or a USB-C to USB-C cable for the job. Simply plug in the cable to your controller and to your PC, and Windows should automatically be able to recognise it.

With the DirectInput driver for Windows, the PS5 controller’s DualSense can now be used. Certain games will recognise it and let you rebind controls. However, many PC games currently are made to work with Microsoft’s more recent XInput driver for Xbox controllers, making the PS5 DualSense somewhat limited.

This is when Steam comes into play.

Setting up DualSense Controller on Steam

Fire up Steam in Big Picture mode. Make sure that your controller is connected to your PC. Head to the controller settings and you must find that DualSense is now recognized and shown as a PlayStation 5 controller. Ensure that you are running the latest patch of the Steam client and “PlayStation Configuration Support” is checked.

To adjust the joystick sensitivity, select Calibrate. Select Preferences to name the controller, enable or disable rumble, and change the colour and brightness of the LED strip. Hit the PlayStation logo button to bring up Steam’s PS controller configuration screen.

There are a few software available to help you connect your DualSense controller to your PC. DSX is one of them.

Setting up DualSenseX

dsxSoftware

DualSenseX is the DS5Windows gamepad input mapper and virtual emulator of the next generation developed to connect your DualSense PS5 Controller on a Windows PC. You can use DSX with all almost all games, regardless of whether you’re using Steam or another platform.

The older version is available for free but only includes lesser features and won’t get any updates going forward. The paid version of DualSenseX can be purchased on Steam with the newest features and upgrades.

The free version of DSX is a standalone install file that may be used without Steam; however, it lacks all of the most recent features and upcoming updates.

Extract the contents of “DualSenseX-Setup.zip” and launch the application. The DualSenseX loading screen will appear and you will be able to use the application.

The one from Steam works somewhat similar only. For DSX to recognise your PS5 controller, connect your DualSense controller to your PC.

DSX Tabs

DualSenseX comes with a ton of configurations and options to try and customize the application.

Home

You can edit and modify the controller LEDs, choose the type of emulation, set up adaptive trigger responses, and import game developers’ controller script files using the home tab.

Controller

You may test controller keys, adaptive trigger responses, and controller specifications using the controller tab, which functions like a gamepad tester.

Games

The games tab is designed for players to download game mods and profiles with ease.

Sense2Key

A controller to keyboard input mapper is called Sense2Key. To assign any keyboard key to your controller, choose it from the dropdown menu. It is possible to build new profiles and import existing ones from other players.

Settings

Users can customise the DualSenseX app through the settings menu, turning on and off features designed to increase user pleasure. Here, you may discover the right drivers, adjust the gyroscope accelerator, the audio haptics, the touchpad settings, create shortcuts, enable controller cloaking, check the release notes, and much more.

That wraps up the guide. Don’t forget to check out more of our similar guides that you might find useful for your next game.
