Now that God of War is coming to PC on the 14th of January, a lot of new players are going to play the game for the first time. For them, the vast size of the game may be overwhelming and can often be confusing. In this guide, we’ll be showing how to fully upgrade the Blades of Chaos, which are among the most iconic weapons in the God of War franchise.
The Blades of Chaos are a pair of chained blades, forged at the darkest depths of the Underworld by Ares himself. The weapon starts at level one and can be upgraded to level 5. Each level unlocks new combos to enact while in active combat.
Upgrade Level 1 to 4
To fully upgrade the Blades to level 5, Chaos Flames and a Raging Inferno of Muspelheim. After the weapon unlocks at Level 1, you just need to progress through the story and defeat certain bosses that drop Level 2 to 4. We don’t need to tell you this but don’t forget to loot the bosses once you’ve defeated them.
Level 4 is the maximum level you can reach with the Blades of Chaos before you beat the main campaign. Once you’ve done that, you can embark on a quest to find the Raging Inferno of Muspelheim.
Upgrade Level 5
To find the Raging Inferno of Muspelheim, you need to unlock the Realm of Muspelheim first. To do this, you must find 4 Muspelheim Language Ciphers in purple chests. Once you reach the Realm, you must fight your way through 5 challenges to reach the top of the mountain. Each of the challenges needs to be beaten twice: once the normal version and then the hard version. If you succeed in these trials, a gateway opens up that lets you further up the mountain. You will find the Valkyrie at the top of the mountain, that drops the Raging Inferno of Muspelheim once you defeat it in combat.
Our advice: Purchase Resurrection Stones before battle if you don’t already have one already. Without these, you’ll be terribly underequipped to face the beasts in Muspelheim.
The 5th upgrade is a little tricky. It requires you to trade in the Raging Inferno of Muspelheim at any (Brok / Sindri’s) shop to get the Chaos Flame material in exchange. Note that you need to have completed the story to be able to perform this exchange. Once you have the Chaos Flame, you shall be able to find the final upgrade for the Blades of Chaos in the upgrades section of a shop.
So there you have it, your fully upgraded Blades of Chaos. Now you can use a plethora of new special attacks, increased damage, and increased stun as you dive deeper into the post-game content.
