Minecraft is a survival game but it does have a fairly advanced trading system, giving it an RPG-esque feeling. You can find a village with a variety of villagers with different jobs, who trade you goodies in exchange for some emeralds, and vice-versa.
But if you’re having a hard time gathering emeralds to buy from the normal traders, here’s a quick guide into how you can find and cure Zombie villagers to get cheaper trades from them.
What are Zombie Villagers?
Zombie villagers are a rare form of a zombie which isn’t fully converted into one yet. They look like the normal villagers dressed in their professional costumes, but well, green. Villagers can sometimes be turned into zombie villagers when a zombie attacks them.
Note that the probability of them becoming zombie villager increases with the difficulty of your world or server. They can also be found roaming in the wild at night, so if you find one, here’s how you need to deal with it.
How to handle a Zombie Villager
The behavior of a zombie villager is the same as that of a normal zombie. They can also pick up tools like bows and swords to attack the player. So, unless you have proper armor to protect yourself, you should maintain your fair distance from them.
The Zombie Villagers, similar to normal villagers, take damage when exposed to sunlight, so make sure you deal with them at night or in shade. If you find one naturally spawning at night, you can place a boat to make it sit in it, to prevent it from despawning. You can build an enclosure around it to keep it safe from sunlight if you want. And then you can think of curing it.
Curing your Zombie Villager
Step 1: Create Splash Potion of Weakness
The Splash potion of weakness is a potion that when dropped around a mob, weakens it temporarily, which means it can be used to reduce the zombie-like effect plaguing our villagers. To craft one, however, you will need the following.
- Fermented spider eye
- Blaze Powder
- Bottle of water
- Brewing Stand
- Gunpowder
Once you have these, you can use the brewing stand as shown to craft a potion of weakness. You can then repeat the same with gunpowder to convert them into splash potions of weakness.
Step 2: Crafting a Golden Apple
Golden apples can be found from loot chests inside different structures in the game’s world. If you haven’t found one yet, you can craft one by placing an apple surrounded by gold ingots on the crafting table as shown.
Step 3: Curing the Zombie Villager
Now that you have splash potions of weakness and a golden apple, you can start curing your Zombie Villager. Find where you had hidden it and then throw the splash potion directly on him or near it to apply the weakness effect on it.
Once weakened, you need to hold the golden apple and right-click facing the zombie villager. This should start the process and your patient should now be emitting particles around it to show that the cure is working.
Now you just need to wait for 3 to 5 minutes as it heals. If you’re doing it for the first time, the curing of the villager is indicated by the “Zombie Doctor” achievement being unlocked, which means that it has now been completely turned back into a villager.
