Similar to other classic RPGs leveling up your character is essential in Elden Ring. To level up in Elden Ring you will first have to talk to Melina at the beginning of the game. After talking to her you can level up at “Sites of Lost Grace”.
“Runes” is the “currency” in Elden Ring. Runes can be used to purchase attribute points and to level up your character. There are much easier ways to get an enormous amount of runes without having to do a lot of work. This is called “Rune Farming”.
AFK Rune Farming in War-Dead Catacombs.
The first location to farm runes away from the keyboard is in the “War-Dead Catacombs”. This dungeon has a lot of enemies which will fight each other. As these enemies continue killing each other, with you present in the area, you will earn runes. Sneak around the dungeon to spawn all the enemies and hide in a discreet place. This rune farm may work for hours or for a mere 15 minutes.
To unlock this particular dungeon you will have to defeat the “Starscourge Radahn” boss. This boss is hard to defeat but will be worth it. You will be able to get hundreds of thousands of runes with this farming technique. Equip the “Golden Scarab” talisman to get even more runes!
Rune farming in Mohgwyn Palace.
To access this area you will have to complete the full questline of the NPC who said the “maidenless” dialogue and created the famous Elden Ring meme. At the very end of this NPC’s questline, you will receive the “Pureblood Knight’s Medal”.
Use the “Pureblood Knight’s Medal” to teleport to “Mohgwyn Palace”. You will need to go to the extreme southeast area of this region. The journey to the southeast region will be filled with dangerous enemies trying to kill. Rush past these enemies and do not engage with them. To the southeast of this region, there is a location called the “Palace Approach Ledge Road”.
This area will have hunched over resting enemies scattered all along the slope. Sneak behind and stab them to get 2000 runes per enemy. Retravel to this location to repeat the process.
