How to Fix Total War Warhammer 3 with Crashing at Startup

In this guide, we will help you fix the crash error that you have been facing in Total War Warhammer 3 just by following the steps mentioned in the guide. It’s the third game in the Total War series based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy fictional setting.

The release of the new Total war game called Total War Warhammer 3 is just around the corner as it sets to be out on February 17, 2022. The Total War games are one of the most popular turn-based strategy games ever.

How to fix this error?

  1. Go to the library in Steam.
  2. Locate your game, right-click it, and then select properties.
  3. Launch options can be found in the General section. Select it by clicking on it.
  4. Close it after typing “-dx11”.
  5. Right-click the game icon on your desktop and select properties.
  6. Disable on-screen optimizations by clicking compatibility and then running as administrator.
  7. Right-click the game on Steam and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  8. Remove the tick from the enable steam overlay option in general.
  9. Now go to Local Files and check the integrity of the game files.
  10. Wait for it to complete the verification process before starting the game.
  11. Locate the game and right-click to see its properties.

Modifying Values in Appdata Folder

  1. Go to Appdata folder by Navigating through This PC -> C drive -> Users -> “Your PC Name” -> Appdata.
  2. Appdata folder is hidden so make sure you have enabled show hidden files and folder.
  3. Now Inside Roaming you will find Total Warhammer 3 folder directly or inside some other folder like creative assembly.
  4. Delete the whole folder.
  5. If Deleting the folder does not work then open the game and let it crash.
  6. This folder will again be there.
  7. Now go to warhammer folder find the file which has scripts and values related to resolution.
  8. There set full screen true as false and save.
  9. Delete Logs folder and files if available.
  10. Restart Steam and you are good to go.

Some Additional Steps May Help

  1. Type “regedit” in the Windows + R box.
  2. Expand HKEY LOCAL MACHINE > System > CurrentControllerSet > Control > Graphics Driver HKEY LOCAL MACHINE > System > CurrentControllerSet > Control > Graphics Driver
  3. TdrWatch can be found under graphics drivers.
  4. TDR Recovery should be set to 1 and OK should be pressed.
  5. Install latest graphics driver for your graphics card.
  6. Remove Overlays of discord, MSI Afterburner and more.

If none of the procedures above work, try reinstalling the game on a separate drive and updating your drivers to the most recent version.
