Beginners Guide to Total War: Warhammer 3.
Camera & Unit Controls.
You can use the default W, A, S, D to pan around and assess the battlefield before a war. The simpler way to do this is by pressing the scroll button of your mouse. You can also use your scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the battlefield. If you zoom out enough, the camera will shift to a bird’s eye view of the battlefield.
Select your units by left-clicking them on the battlefield or clicking on their respective unit cards. To select several units, hold down the “ctrl” button and drag by pressing the left-click button on your desired units.
After selecting your units, you can hold down the right-click button and drag them across the battlefield to arrange them in a particular formation. To rotate your selected units, hold “alt” and “ctrl” simultaneously and use the left-click button to rotate.
Press the right-click button on an enemy to attack. You can lock your selected group by pressing the tiny lock button on the unit card bar. A locked group will keep their programmed formation while attacking. It also automatically selects the best units inside the locked group to lead the attack charge.
Best Basic Formation in Total War: Warhammer 3.
Place four groups of infantry troops at the front and center of your attack formation. These units are cannon fodder and will perish during the battle. To the left and the right side of the infantry troops will be two groups guarding the flanks.
Behind the first wave will be four units of archers. To the sides of this ranged unit will be two large units that will protect the flank. Select proper heroes and lords of your faction before starting the battle to get the best buffs and powers.
Terrain of the battlefield.
The terrain of the battlefield can win or lose you the battle. Situating your troops on the high ground will give you an advantage and will provide your infantry troops bonuses while attacking.
Total War: Warhammer 3 has different types of terrains which affect your troops in different ways.
- Swamps/Sea – Small foot units fighting in these locations will be at a disadvantage and move slower.
- Forests – Maps with forests gives debuffs to large troops and advantage to small units. You can also hide special units in forests to launch an ambush at your enemies.
If you lower your enemy’s morale to a breaking point, they will flee the battlefield. Charging your enemy in their flanks or killing their hero will lower their morale. If the enemy’s morale gets low, they will re-route. Make an enemy re-route three times, and they will flee the battlefield.
