Fortnite on Valves Steam Deck Won’t Be Supported By Epic

Epic Games Tim Sweeney confirmed this with a series of tweets. Valves steam deck is a console that is something revolutionary for the handheld gaming space that will finally help bring PC gaming to a handheld and that too at a competitive price.

But since the steam deck comes with a Linux-based operating system, Tim Sweeney has openly claimed that he is not confident that Epics’ Easy Anti-Cheat’ and ‘BattlEye’, which is what Fortnite uses for anti-cheat, will be as effective as they are on windows.

"We don't have confidence that we'd be able to combat cheating at scale under a wide array of kernel configurations, including custom ones," Sweeney said.

The linux_gaming subreddit was not happy with users stating that “Epic will never act in a way that will benefit Steam or the Steam Deck” and how epic was only doing this to spite steam at this point. This is only speculation on their part.

It is comforting to know that the steam deck is based on an X86 platform. That would mean it should, in theory, run windows which would mean you could run the game natively on windows. It will be seen if support for Fortnite and other Epic titles will be made for the steam deck.
